With Mary Sewell from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Department of Health Policy and Management (my OTHER alma mater!) representing the Vision Care Section (VCS) of the American Public Health Association (APHA) at annual meeting
Proud to be chosen to represent the American Optometric Association at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), member of the Vision Health Initiative (VHI) Strategic Planning Development Team, 2016 – 2017
Invited by the AOA to serve as panelist at Optometry’s Education Summit and Profession-wide Roundtable 2016
I advocated for the importance of expanding our historical educational paradigm of “vision science” to include health care delivery science, and for a needed cross-cutting educational and training focus that highlights the critical role that doctors of optometry, defined as physicians by CMS, have in the health care continuum. I also promoted a culture of professional advocacy and evidence-based education addressing “physician parity” within interprofessional and post-graduate core competencies that promote the value and unique scope of optometric care
Honored to be recipient of the AOA President’s Award!
